Thinking About Building a Home? Here’s What You Need to Know
March 25, 2022
Have you been thinking about moving or upgrading your home? Should you buy a home on the market or would you be better off to just build your own home? The market is still so limited and finding the home of your dreams can be quite a task or take a while. This may lead you or sway you towards wanting to build a home instead. One thing that is for sure construction workers everywhere are trying their best to get more homes built and on the market but there are some things they are facing that is making that difficult for them as well.
Supply Issues:
So one thing that is happening right now is that construction workers or building companies are having issues getting certain building materials. According to an article in HousingWire, almost everything needed in the homebuilding process is affected by a delay and or a price increase right now.
Lumber is not the only issue, while it does get more attention in the news right now it is not the only thing that is slowing builders down. Other things that are adding to the struggle are windows, roofing materials, and even garage doors are facing major delays and spikes in pricing.
Skilled Builder Shortages:
So you don’t just want anyone working on the build of your dream home either. This is another major issue for building companies. Builders are having a hard time finding skilled workers to fill their teams. Being short handed is dragging out schedules even further. I will say that the reports show that employment rates in those specialized areas are increasing. It is still a challenge to fill all the needs in the construction employee field but it is getting better.
So here’s the bottom line and what you really need to know. When you are weighing your options about whether to build or to buy a home already on the market, consider that it may take a decent amount of time longer than normal to get your home fully finished. Also, you will likely pay more to build your dream home right now than you would in a normal market or when the supply of materials is normal. While these factors don’t mean you should completely mark building a new construction home off your list it definitely means you have more factors to consider than in a normal market.
